Immediate Care, Long-term Wellness: Vicarious Trauma Support for Professionals

We are often asked to support students through experiences such as suicidal ideation, sexual assault, and deaths of students. How do we empathically engage in this vital work without taking on too much? This session discusses compassion fatigue, also known as vicarious trauma. We will outline risk factors; how vicarious trauma presents; coping strategies; and best practices for creating a culture of care that supports everyone. Participants will build a foundational network of colleagues who understand the potential side effects of helping others.
