“I want to kill myself.” Where We Go From Here

College student mental health concerns continue to rise in prevalence and severity including suicidal ideation. Suicide is the second leading cause of death among college students with an estimated 1,100 students completing suicide each year. Given student affairs professionals are likely to hear that a student is struggling with suicidal ideation, having the skills to manage these situations is vital. This session will review trends in student mental health and focus on interventions to decrease mental health stigma while increasing hope, help seeking behaviors, and suicide prevention efforts.
