Hate Incidents On Campus: Clery Considerations and Beyond

The presenters will focus on understanding the factors to analyze when classifying hate crimes under the Clery Act while broadly examining the intersections between hate crimes and protected speech. Presenters will share strategies for training those who document incidents on campus to capture the most helpful information so the institution has the information it needs to classify a hate crime if applicable. The presenters will discuss how to develop tools and resources to inform the campus community about the importance of reporting all crimes that are motivated by bias.
