2018 NASPA Annual Conference

Hashtags and Unfollows: Race and Racism in the World of Social Media

Limited research has been advanced that considers how social media intersects with race, racism, and gender among college students. Additionally, scholars (Gin et al., 2016; Tynes et al. 2013) have noted these are areas necessitating the attention of student affairs. The presenters will share literature, emerging research, and best practices to advance action oriented practices regarding how to best support students in the context of today's racialized and gendered social media campus cultures.
